Leader In Me
A principle-based approach to leadership and life skills.
With origins dating back to the late 90’s, Leader in Me was launched in 2008 as a solution to drive results in leadership, culture, and academics. In 2018, it was evaluated by Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL), and met their requirements to be listed as a SELect Program – an important designation for many of our education clients. Leader in Me also aligns with Character Education, 21st Century Skills, Whole Child Development, and other various student development paradigms. Leader in Me supports staff and students as they:
- Understand and manage emotions
- Set and achieve positive goals
- Feel and show empathy for others
- Establish and maintain positive relationships
Leader in Me teaches foundational principles and skills that are widely accepted as essential to personal leadership such as responsibility, vision, time management, communication, collaboration, relationship building, and wellness, in order to serve all students in all communities.
Educating the Whole Child
Establish a “whole-child” mindset with a belief that all students have genius and everyone can be a leader.
Leader in Me provides elementary schools with a model and process that addresses common challenges that are unique to students during these formative years. Parents, educators, and school administrators are concerned with their child’s physical, mental, social, and economic well-being, all of which are factors that can contribute to or hinder academic success. Teachers, staff, and administrators at Leader in Me Schools are empowered to provide support in all of these areas by creating a learning environment that addresses whole-child education with five (5) Core Paradigms. These paradigms influence the behavior of staff, students, and their families.
Student Development
Students find their voice in the classroom and through leadership roles by learning and applying life-ready leadership skills.
Children at Leader in Me Schools thrive in a nurturing environment when they feel safe, confident, and supported by teachers and other staff members. By recognizing each child as a leader with unique gifts and talents to share, all aspects of their education begin to flourish. This social and emotional learning process equips students with the critical life skills to build meaningful relationships and take ownership of their education.
Family Development
Training workshops and other resources are also available to help parents or guardians develop life-ready leadership skills at home.
During the formative years of early childhood development, parents are eager to discover ways to prepare their children for obstacles ahead. Leader in Me offers families a powerful framework that aligns to the same principles being taught at school. And it’s not just helping kids finish their homework–families collaborate with their local Leader in Me school to encourage their child to cultivate leadership skills, like motivation, self-directed learning, self-confidence, and working well with others.
What Leader in Me Schools DO
The Framework provides a unique approach to integrating highly effective practices throughout a school’s culture.
Instead of focusing on academic measures alone, Leader in Me embodies a holistic approach to education, redefining how schools measure success. This approach empowers educators with effective practices and tools to:
- teach LEADERSHIP to every student,
- create a CULTURE of student empowerment,
- and align systems to drive results in ACADEMICS.
